Summary0001902: add more simplicity in drawing and shaping
Descriptionas coming from Sketchup 8, I miss the simplicity in FreeCad.
Yes, indeed, I came to FreeCad, because I miss several important part construction functions in Sketchup8.
Couldn't you add more context menues in the right mouse button (or right touchpad button)?
For instance, after watching the tutorial #1, how to build a "Turners Cube", it came up to me, how many "pressbuttons" are necessary to construct this cube with pockets: 18 times highlighting an area, making a new sketch, Co-Centering a circle, make a circle, re-diametering the circle, close the sketch, make a pocket, putting a value, enter. Then next sketch with next circle. Enormous effort!
Why not drawing 3 circles on 6 areas with a proposed snap-feature and Axe-alignement proposal in the first step (as I would do in Sketchup) and afterwards making the pockets with just moving the highlighted area and then leaving the intended measure eg. in a right-mouse-button-menue?
Yes, I am a beginner with FreeCad, but beeing this, I maybe have a view on this programm, that is the one of many others and therefore also important?!
Steps To Reproduce1. Follow the construction of the "turnerscube", as shown in video-tutorial #1.
2. make the same Cube with Sketchup 8: draw all 3x6 circles at once and then make all pockets with the "stamp"-tool.
Additional InformationThe construction with Sketchup seems me to be much more efficient!
I would apreciate it, when some functions and make-things-easier would find entrance in FreeCad, especially
- the ability to drop the special measure (eg. diameter in mm) while doing a job (context menue or just "typing the number and enter")
- the "push/pull" function (similar to Sketchup) to make pockets or pads
- the ability to draw not just one element in a sketch but all that are needed to contsruct the "turners cube" (3 per sketch), without loosing the ability to act on every single circle when "pocketing" afterwards.

I am not a software developer and I don't know, if these simplifications are possible to add. Please tell me, if and maybe when there's something coming.
Many thanks!

Please discuss this on the Help Forum. I don't think you already have? But of course I may have missed it.

There is always many ways to create something in FreeCAD, just because you saw one tutorial written by who knows who, that does not mean it is the only way or possibly not even the best way, to do something.

What tutorial are you referring to? please provide a link.

Please always post your Help about FreeCAD data, so we know what versions of many things you are using, just saying something like 0.14 is nearly useless.

Your OS you have shown to be Win XP....this is no longer supported by MS, hence no more security updates, you should not be using it any more, definitely not on the internet. I suggest you install a Ubuntu Linux variant, assuming you don't want to pay MS for a new version of Windows or buy a new PC etc....

I'm afraid there is not much we can do with this "feature request" anyway... "I wish that application A would be more like application B" is certainly not something that can be just done, there are often many reasons why application A is not application B.

In short, I think like Jim, that if you are interested in discussing this further, you do that on the forum. There is in any case no way this "feature" can be implemented the way it is described.
