| Summary | 0000390: Understandign of sketching with Freecad | ||||
| Description | Hi I tried Freecad a several times and it is confusing to start modeling. I made a small presentation from my point of view about modeling. My experience is based on other commercial CAD programs (CATIA, I-DEAS, Autocad, Solidworks). This presentation can be seen as baseline for a discussion. Feel free to add some comments | ||||

Nice round up of the PartDesign. You got it nearly as I see it. Downgrading faces to sketches I didn't know/use so far. Interesting thing. But understand. Its not a lack of plan. I know relatively exactly were I want to go with the PartDesign and the sketcher, but since its only me and sometimes logari and Werner which do coding in that field the progress will be slow.... |

Understood your manpower problem. Sorry that I can't help you on that issue. Is there any document showing the modeling philosophy or the modules which are available and how they interact (wiki/letter/presentation)? would be helpful to figure out the best way of modeling things and maybe a lot of feature requests wouldn't appear on this board. Would it also make it easier to prepare some documentation for beginners or tutorial. I would offer you to do some wiki stuff or tutorials if you are interested. BR |

There are some Tutorials, but mainly for Draft of Yorik: https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/free-cad/index.php?title=Tutorials The PartDesign with Sketcher is not that good so far a tutorial makes sense... |

As there several functions are missing not. But if a definition of the way forward is given I would prepare the tutorial showing the future function. These functions could be discussed or other ideas maybe would lead to a better implementation or new feature. The link shows only user tutorials. Is there a presentation about how FreeCad works and how functions and tools will be implemented? In the user manual only a small sketch (class diagram for scripting) was available. A tree view about FreeCad with parent and children relations would be nice. Is there any documentation how FreeCad file structure looks like? The user manual is big but more related to programers. Would be helpful to have something more for dummies ;-) |

Good points, but as you know....... Programmers are bad writers. So we left the task to someone else ;) Maybe sometimes sometime one write a book! |

I think we are in coding and discussion past this point... |
