Summary0000067: When I create a new project, I can't see it.
DescriptionWhen I create a new project, all I can see is the initial mottled start page. I can create a primitive, and I can see it while my cursor is within the "set to axometric" view. As soon as my cursor leave the button, the picture disappears. I've looked for other bugs that are similar, but I can't find any.

I'm on ubuntu 9.04. I tried installing the latest stable version of freecad, which didn't seem to help at all. Kernel = 2.6.28-17-generic 0000058-Ubuntu SMP. It's a dell studio 1555. Anything else you need to know?

When you say turn off the start page, are you talking about the spash screen? Cus thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the view screen, before you start a new project. I've added a screen shot, you'll notice I have a cylinder selected, however, I can't actually see the cylinder. It's got that mottled stuff everywhere.

Thanks
Daine

No, he meant the "Welcome to FreeCAD" start page. You can switch it off under preferences > General > Online Help > Show startpage. We know about an issue that there is an update problem for the first created 3d view if the start page is open.
Maybe your version is a bit older so that this start page doesn't exist there.

Anyway, to judge by the screenshot you have attached it seems to be another problem. It looks like an OpenGL issue. Is it possible to minimize/maximize the 3d view?

I can minimize/maximize it, but the issue persists. It sort of flashes between that start page, and the view page thing. It's pretty impossible to work with. Is there anything else I can do?

Indeed, looks like a OpenGl issue.
Does run other OpenGl programs? Like e.g. Blender?

I've run a few opengl apps before, they seem to work fine, but they have all been smaller little opengl apps. For instance, glxgears works fine. Can I test with anything else?

For me it's still unclear whether you have the startpage stuff and if yes whether it's disabled. I have uploaded a screenshot of how it looks like.

For testing other OpenGL candidates Blender would be a good alternative. And what about hardware acceleration? Is it enabled on your system?

With glxGears you can test nothing. Its so damn simple, its run everywhere.

The output of the command glxinfo (in terminal) could also be useful...
