Summary | 0003318: Drawing (2D) "loses" its reference by renaming the sheet
Description | If the name of sheet with a technical drawing (drawing dimensioning WB) is changed after inserting a view (or later) causes error, or loss of reference. It seems that the moment when the error occurs, depends on the complexity of the part. With a complex part the error appeared immediately, with a much more simple part, it was possible to add some measures until the problem occurs. It is just possible to rename the sheet if it is empty. Than everything is working well.
Steps To Reproduce | - open/create a 3D model - add a sheet - insert a view - rename the sheet - begin to add dimensions - if the error is present > or the green reference points doesn't fit with the black geometry > or it is not possible to add other dimensions

Renaming sheets it's interesting if more than one sheet is needed. PS: Renaming the sheet seems to work. I closed the file and after I reopened it again the error occured. @joerg can you recreate this on the latest 0.17 ? (BTW, please always post your Help > About FreeCAD > Copy to clipboard when opening a bug/feature ticket) FYI, Drawing WB is being deprecated in favor of TechDraw WB in 0.17 |
|
@ Kunda1: I added the information in my first comment. (Is it possible to edit the issue? It is my first report...) I didn't find a solution for my problem. I made an assembly of my part and created various files where I was able to make 2D drawings with view from top, side, front and so on... Techdraw: I watched some tutorials and some documentation about that. It will be much more powerful and easy to use as the actual drawing dimensioning WB. I am looking forward to get the new 0.17 version as soon as it is available. |

@joerg > I added the information in my first comment. (Is it possible to edit the issue? It is my first report...) Thanks! No it's not possible at this time for reporters to have permission to edit tickets. They can edit their comments though as you did. FC is very close to the 0.17 release. You can accompany it but using the multi-weekly generated executables for 0.17 at https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.17_pre 0.17 is pretty stable and as it is currently will be going in to a feature freeze soon. TechDraw is the future of Drawing WB. Best to start learning it now. As for assemblies, I'd read more about using the Assembly workbench, it's still has a long way to go and there are other alternatives to it (assembly2 and now assembly3). you can read more about this in the forums. For now, it would help if you tested this bug in 0.17 to show if it's still there. Do you mind doing that? |

@Kunda1 Yes I would like to test the 0.17 version with techdraw and assembly3. I will do this first on my own pc (latest ubuntu version) and as soon as the 0.17 development is finished I will use it on my company pc (windows 10). |
|
@joerg Does it work with the TechDraw workbench? Btw, the Drawing Dimensioning wb is an add-on and not official part of FreeCAD |
