Summary0003531: Improve experience for first users on Mac OS
DescriptionToday I installed FreeCAD and the first few hours were very frustrating. I took me quite a while to understand that the navigation expects a mouse with three buttons.

I tried to get an account for the forum but that is a different account then for the tracker here. I did not find out how to get an account for the wiki. In the wiki
https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/Mouse_Model#Mac_OS_X_Issues
mentioned that Mac OS Issues are known and that feedback is wanted. Given that I can neither use the forum or the wiki at this time I am opening this ticket in the tracker as a starting point.
Steps To ReproduceUse FreeCAD for the first time on a MAC.
Download and Install
Try out a simple tutorial like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxqtJ-306HE
get frustrated since you screen will contain nothing visible in no time and there seems to be no proper view to zoom in on what you are currently working on.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Though please follow the guidelines (giant yellow banner at the top of this page) of posting to our tracker. We prefer you open a forum thread before you open a ticket to discuss the issue with the community. Mouse navigation can be customized on the bottom right side of the screen, see screenshot. Again if you have feedback about this, please open a forum thread. Closing ticket for now.

As I pointed out I can not use the forum at this time. So having a single sign on for forum tracker and wiki would be a great improvement and already worthwhile keeping this ticket open.

Personally I feel very disappointed if tickets get close so quickly and it could be a reason I go away and simply do not bother any more. I'd rather help and work with the forum and wiki. I can't do this yet since the freecad infrastructure won't let me.

@seppl2018 your forum post most likely was waiting moderation because it's your first post. The moderators are all volunteers just like myself. On the tracker we experience A LOT of tracker bloat. The tracker needs to stay succinct. 1 issue, 1 ticket.

The issue you raise is important, but it's too broad for a ticket and not the address for a discussion. Please wait patiently while your forum post is accepted. And please don't take offense if I close this ticket again.

You'll have to close the ticket once more.
As I told you I hate tickets to be closed that make sense.
I am moving on. My current project was finished with Sketchup. I hated a lot of it but at least I could finish my work with it in under 2 hours.
In the meantime I found out hat with a right click in the Sketcher I could center the current drawing - i would have expected this feature under the "view/zoom" menu.
Also the feature was not available when I left the sketcher. In the forum I saw a post that the x/y/z navigation feature was proposed more than a year ago - i also think that is a necessity. Unfortunately I will not be bothering for a while and simply go a way.

@seppl2018 the issue here really comes down to patience and instant gratification. You didn't have the former and your expected the latter.

I think there are many things to improve in FreeCAD and we're all volunteers. FreeCAD still hasn't reached a 1.0 milestone. You want it to do things? Then stick around and give very concise feedback, hey, you could even try to write a proposal, or create a patch?

Like I said before, our bugtracker functions as a 1 ticket 1 issue model. "Improve experience for first users on Mac OS" and complain that it's difficult to follow a tutorial (that is from 6 years ago) is no where near a concise ticket. We also do not know from your ticket what exact version you are running (Help > About FreeCAD > Copy to clipboard). Again, you didn't read the guidelines on how to post to our tracker.

I don't feel wrong at all to close this ticket. I do hope you change your mind and stick around to understand how we do things and make the UX better for OSX. But if you don't, namaste.
